A Classic Old Log Cabin
- A classic old log cabin of the early 1800’s built for protection from the elements and wildlife.
- Log cabins were made with felled trees that had been stripped of their limbs and stacked horizontally, which provided well-insulated walls.
- Windows were rare or few because the glass was hard to come by.
- Roofs were made of lodge poles with wooden shingles.
- Fireplaces and chimneys were normally made of native rock.
- In some cases, rocks were dry-stacked when mortar was not available.
