Lakes Around the Truckee-Tahoe Area

Donner Lake

Fishing at Donner Lake has been fair, though increased summer boat traffic has slowed the shore bite. Rainbow trout can still be caught from the west end using PowerBait, worms, and spinners, with slip sinker rigs producing the best results from shore. Boat anglers are finding fish suspended at various depths, while Mackinaw have moved deeper as water temperatures rise and are now holding around 100–130 feet. Kokanee schools are generally being found between 60–80 feet. The best fishing window is early morning, roughly 5:30–10:00 a.m., when temperatures are cooler, fish are more active, and recreational boat traffic is lighter.

Boca Reservoir

Boca Reservoir continues to offer some of the most consistent fishing in the area, with healthy water levels and good action throughout the lake. Early mornings and late evenings are the best times to fish, particularly before recreational boat traffic increases. Trout fishing has been productive near the dam, where shore anglers are finding success with worms, PowerBait, and Rooster Tails. Kokanee fishing remains especially strong, with schools of 10–12-inch fish providing steady action. Trolling wedding rings behind flashers while covering water has been an effective way to locate kokanee. For the best overall experience, anglers should focus on the cooler morning and evening hours.

Stampede Reservoir

Water levels at Stampede Reservoir continue to drop as summer progresses, but fishing remains productive for several species. Kokanee action is consistent near the Sagehen and Little Truckee inlets, with pink or orange hoochies behind dodgers working well at depths of 50–70 feet. Most kokanee are running around 8–9 inches. Rainbow trout anglers are having success trolling Rapalas, while shore anglers can find fish near the dam using worms, PowerBait, and spinners. Smallmouth bass fishing is also good around the dam and rocky shorelines. With opportunities for kokanee, trout, and bass, Stampede remains a solid option for anglers looking to target multiple species.

Prosser Creek Reservoir

Prosser Creek Reservoir is around 80% full and continues to provide consistent fishing with noticeably less boat traffic than some other local waters. Cutthroat and rainbow trout fishing has been particularly productive around the north end of the lake. Worms, PowerBait, and salmon eggs are all producing, with several larger cutthroat recently reported. Bass fishing remains strong as well, with fish actively feeding around weed lines, submerged structure, and warmer pockets of water. Crawdad imitations, Senkos, and inline spinners such as Rooster Tails have been effective choices. With productive fishing for both trout and warmwater species, Prosser remains a good summer option for anglers of all experience levels.

Jackson Meadows

Jackson Meadows Reservoir is currently accessible Thursday through Sunday and continues to offer excellent fishing opportunities. Shore anglers are reporting a strong rainbow trout bite, with spinners, PowerBait, and worms producing consistent action from several areas around the lake. Boat anglers are also finding quality brown trout by trolling Rapalas through deeper water. The combination of productive shoreline fishing and opportunities to target both rainbow and brown trout makes Jackson Meadows a worthwhile summer destination. It can also be a good option for anglers looking to get away from some of the heavier recreational crowds found on other local lakes and reservoirs.

Lake Tahoe

No fishing report is available for Lake Tahoe this week. Anglers planning to head out should check current weather and wind conditions before making their trip. Summer conditions on Tahoe can change quickly, particularly when it comes to afternoon winds and overall lake conditions. Checking the latest information before launching or heading onto the water will help anglers plan accordingly and determine where fishing has been most productive.

Pyramid Lake

Pyramid Lake is closed for the season.
