Lakes Around the Truckee-Tahoe Area
Donner Lake
Donner Lake continues to fish decently, especially for those hitting the water early. Surface temps are hovering in the mid-60s°F. The Kokanee bite has tapered off, but a few schools are still active around 40–50 feet deep first thing in the morning—try pink or chartreuse hoochies behind a dodger for best results. Mackinaw are hanging deeper, around 120–130 feet, and responding well to white tube jigs and silver spoons. Shore anglers are getting bites near the west-end ramps and China Cove using worms and PowerBait. As usual, boat traffic and rising temps tend to slow things down by mid-morning.
Boca Reservoir
Boca is still producing for both boat and bank anglers, though the Kokanee bite has slowed down significantly with the summer heat. Most of the action now is on trout, especially near the dam. Worms, PowerBait, salmon eggs, and small spoons are all putting fish on the line. Surface temps are in the low 60s°F, so fish are dropping deeper as the sun climbs. The reservoir is currently full, giving anglers good access and options.
Stampede Reservoir
Stampede is full, with surface temps in the lower 60s°F. While Kokanee fishing has cooled off, trout are still active early near coves and rocky points. Bass are holding steady at 20–25 feet and can be targeted with finesse setups. By 10am, the fish are heading for deeper water, so that first-light window is your best bet. Focus on structure and shade lines to increase your odds.
Prosser Creek Reservoir
Fishing at Prosser Creek Reservoir has been consistent for both trout and bass. The lake is about 95% full, with surface temps in the low to mid-60s°F. Shore anglers working the area near the dam are having good luck at sunrise and sunset with PowerBait, worms, and salmon eggs. Trollers are finding trout suspended in about 50 feet of water. As with most area lakes, early mornings offer the most productive fishing window.
Jackson Meadows
Despite limited access, Jackson Meadows remains a solid option for shore anglers. The lake is full and water temps are sitting in the mid-60s°F. The best action is still coming from the dam area, with PowerBait and nightcrawlers doing most of the heavy lifting. While boating is still restricted due to invasive species protocols, bank anglers are finding success early and late in the day.
Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe is fishing well if you’re targeting deep water. Surface temps range from the low to mid-60s°F and climb slightly in sheltered coves. Mackinaw are stacked deep—anywhere from 400 to 600 feet—and are being caught by jigging or trolling. Kokanee are showing up around 100 feet in South Lake Tahoe, hitting bright spoons and hoochies. Rainbows and browns are cruising creek mouths, and trout action is best in the early morning or late evening while trolling 30–40 feet along the west shore. Fly anglers should try nymphs at first light and dries during the evening calm.
