Truckee River Fishing Report
Current Water Conditions
Flows on the Truckee River have leveled out nicely this week—holding around 77 CFS out of Tahoe City, 82 CFS through town, and 459 CFS at Farad. With the upper river running lower, more trout are stacking up in the canyon stretch, which has been producing consistent action. Early mornings remain the hot bite window, especially before the sun reaches the water. Evenings are also producing. Angler pressure has stayed light, leaving plenty of space to explore.
Water Temperatures
Steady mid-50s, averaging about 56°F throughout the day.
Hatches
A healthy mix of Blue-Winged Olives and midges are hatching daily, with BWOs being the most prolific.
Effective Tactics
Tightline and indicator nymphing through riffles and seams remains the top producer. Dry-dropper rigs with long leaders excel in mixed currents. Light tippet and a 10-foot rod help control drifts in lower flows. Browns are hugging structure while rainbows are feeding actively in riffles and runs
Catch Report
Anglers are finding plenty of rainbows and browns in the 12–16 inch range from Glenshire through Hirschdale, with larger browns up to 24 inches showing up in deeper canyon pools. The best bite continues to be early and late in the day.

Little Truckee River Fishing Report
Current Water Conditions
The Little Truckee is flowing low and clear at 49 CFS between Stampede and Boca. A small recent bump from rain helped a bit, but presentations remain technical. Stealth is key.
Water Temperatures
Holding steady around 54°F—ideal for late-season trout activity.
Hatches
Blue-Winged Olives, sallies, and Pale Morning Duns are the main hatches. Small patterns (#18–22) are essential.
Effective Tactics
Use 12–14 ft leaders with 6X–7X tippet for delicate presentations. Match the hatch in slicks and tailouts, then shift to hopper-dropper rigs in late mornings. Tightline deeper when fish slide down.
Catch Report
Healthy rainbows and browns in the 14–18 inch range are common, with larger browns pushing 24 inches near the confluence. The best action remains at dawn and dusk during strong dry-fly windows.
