Downhill Skiing
- Alpine skiing became an Olympic event in 1948 at the Games in St Moritz, Switzerland.
- The rules for the Downhill were developed by Sir Arnold Lunn for the 1921 British National Ski Championships.
- The Downhill involves high speeds and the greatest risks of all alpine events.
- Racers on an international-level course will exceed speeds of 80 mph., but over speeds of 90 mph, at the Lauberhorn course in Wengen, Switzerland, and the Hahnekamm course in Kitzbühel, Austria.
- Competing in the Downhill event requires great strength and high speed technical expertise.
