Majestic Moose

  • The moose is a solitary creature and does not roam in herds.
  • In the fall during mating season several may appear in close proximity to each other if there is a female present.
  • During this time males will challenge each other for the affections of all females in the area.
  • A less dominate male will stand down; otherwise they will charge each other via their antlers until one submits. This is rarely a very serious battle because if their antlers lock they could both die.
  • Once mating season is over the male drops his antlers to conserve energy for winter.
  • In spring the antlers grow back in as little as 3 months.
